Mailing lists are notoriously polluted with addresses that do not work. Either the subscriber-in-spe mistyped the email address when she typed it or she got a new address and forgot to unlist the old. Maybe an overeager spam filter can't be convinced you are sending mail that has been requested, maybe the domain has gone stale.
eVerify is an email verifier application that is often used with newsletter management software - serving the purpose to verify the validity of e-mail addresses in your mailing lists. The program works on the same algorithm as ISP mail servers do. Mail servers addresses for a specified e-mail address are extracted from DNS. The program then tries to connect with found SMTP-servers and simulates the sending of message.
Unfortunately, in many cases the only way to find out whether an address is still okay is sending an email to it. This is exactly what eVerify does to validate email addresses. Of course, it does not deliver an actual message, it just checks whether the mail server would accept one. Still, the validation process can take time and quite a bit of bandwidth.
While a quite flexible rules system lets you control the checking process, it would be great if eVerify could do some more advanced pre-screening that drops obviously mistyped addresses before the thorough validation begins. Validation throttling (per domain) would be nice, too.

A nice feature that is already in eVerify is its scheduled and periodic re-checking of addresses. eVerify also isn't picky when it comes to the source of its list and imports from Windows address books, extracts addresses from text files or any ODBC-compliant source
This is the main screen of eVerify. You can customize the look of the main window to suit your needs by either resizing or closing the 'Rules' and 'Thread Activity' windows. The toolbar has buttons for the most common functions of the program, more advanced options can be accessed from the menus.
eVerify sports a powerful yet easy to use scheduler. You can setup the scheduler, minimize the program and forget about it. eVerify needs to be running and minimized for the scheduler to function.
eVerify allows you to set advanced verification options. You can select a greeting method to open a connection with a SMTP server and a level at which you want the email address to be marked as 'Bad'.
eVerify connects to your ISP's Domain Name Server (DNS) to verify the validity of email addresses. You can connect directly to your ISP, or you can setup a SOCKS proxy server.
